In Remembrance
I have been to many memorial services that are pretty sad. Reflecting on the loss of a friend or family member can be pretty hard. I can still remember lots of cool experiences with my Mammie & Pappy who lived in Kentucky where I grew up. I remember even as an adult sitting on the porch with them talking about life and my family. Their lives left an indelible mark on my life. Our memory of past events affects our present in big ways. It is through the eyes of our memories we view our world today.
Jesus gave His disciples some incredible memorable moments. One of the most memorable moments was their last evening together before His arrest and death. He was eating the Passover meal with them. Check this out…
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:26-28 NIV)This simple remembrance moment has been passed through all generations and in fact, I look forward to reflecting on His life and death and what it means to me daily. This remembrance is important for believers to never forget the price paid for grace. I love this song that Matt Maher has written about remembrance. Check this out….
Oh, how could it be That my God would welcome me into this mystery Say take this bread, take this wine Now the simple made divine for any to receive By Your mercy, we come to Your table By Your grace, You are making us faithful Lord, we remember You And remembrance leads us to worship And as we worship You Our worship leads to communion We respond to Your invitation, we remember You See His body, His blood Know that He has overcome every trial we will face None too lost to be saved None too broken or ashamed, all are welcome in this place By Your mercy, we come to Your table By Your grace, You are making us faithful Lord, we remember You And remembrance leads us to worship And as we worship You Our worship leads to communion We respond to Your invitation, we remember You Dying You destroyed our death Rising You restored our life Lord Jesus, come in gloryRemembering Jesus changes the way I live today. I can’t look at what He did for me and not be changed. Remembering Jesus leads me to worship every time. He is worthy of my worship and He loves it when I express my love to Him. I hope that I never stop remembering.
