IF
This is one of the shortest words in the English language, but it is huge when used. It is a word that introduces a conditional clause. I will do this “if” you will do that. It’s a word that adds “the strings attached” to a promise. I love my kids without “strings” or condition. I don’t love them “if” they do exactly what I want them to do. I’ve observed many relationships over the years that have “if” attached to them. I’m thankful that the Lord doesn’t love me that way. Check this out…
11 The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: ‘One of your own descendants I will place on your throne. 12 If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons shall sit on your throne for ever and ever.’ (Psalm 132:11-12 NIV)
This promise of God to King David contains an “if”/conditional clause. The promises and blessings of God often are conditional. His love for us is not conditional. He loves me regardless if I love Him. I understand the love of God more since I’ve become a Dad. His love for me is relentless. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about every one of my children (I have five of them!). I love them with a love that is hard to describe. I love them BECAUSE they are my kids not IF they do what I say and how I say it. This doesn’t mean that I don’t guide them and advise them. My love is not attached to their behavior as much as it’s attached to their bloodline.
As history unfolds, King David’s descendants didn’t keep the covenant and statutes of the Lord. They did not serve as King of Israel. The Lord did bless the heritage of David, because Jesus was born through the lineage of King David.
I want to follow the Lord with my whole heart, because I want the blessing and provision of God upon my life. I know He loves me. I am blown away by His love for me. He loves me because I’m His kid. He blesses and rewards my obedience.
Pressing On! Dwayne
