I Want To See
I’m not sure when my eyesight needed correction. I’ve been wearing contact lenses for well over 40 years. Then in my 40’s my eyesight changed again. I’m really thankful that Benjamin Franklin discovered bifocals. My corrective vision on a daily basis is managed through contact lenses – one for up-close reading and one for distance. I’m thankful for my eyesight that allows me to see. Over the years, I’ve developed an “insight” of sorts – which is the ability to see into things or even behind the scenes. There are times when the truth of the matter might not be so obvious, but “insight” might help me see past the “smoke-screen” of behavior to the deeper issue or struggle. I know that the Lord sees into my life at a deep level – he sees past the surface/shallow stuff right into my heart.
Moses and the Israelites have left Egypt and are camped near Sinai in the historical record of Exodus. The Lord is leading them into a Covenant Relationship with Him. They recognized their dependence upon God. The Lord instructs Moses to bring some leaders with him up the mountain. Check this out….
9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. 10 There they saw the God of Israel. Under his feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself. 11 And though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in his presence! (Exodus 24:9-11 NLT)
I want to see God. I thought about when I was kid and was too short to see over the people in front of me. I was also reminded of Zacchaeus when he climbed a tree to see Jesus. He wanted to see. I want to be like these guys with Moses and eat a covenant meal in the Presence of God. I want to hear His voice. I want to see Him. I want to hear Him.
I realize that I get to see Him in the pages of His Word. I also get to hear from Him when He whispers to me through His Spirit. I also get to sit in His Presence every day when I seek Him in His Word and come before Him in prayerful worship. I still am a bit envious of these men along with Moses who physically saw Him and ate in His Presence.
I need to continue to improve my eyesight and insight seeing and seeking the heart of God. The longer I walk with Him and hear Him, the better I know Him.
Pressing On!
