I Know

There are things that I know because I’ve experienced them. There are things I know because others have told me. There are other things I know because they are laws – they happen every time. For example, I know that when I throw something up, it always comes down because of the law of gravity. I also know stuff like gravity, weather and nature that I can’t explain. Just because I know something doesn’t mean I know all about that subject matter.

I am still learning about some things that I know a little about – I want to learn a lot more.

John pens a very loving and sensitive epistle for followers of Jesus. He had such a way of describing followers of Jesus as children. As a child of God, I want to honor Him with my life and my choices. Check this out…

¹⁸ We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. ¹⁹ We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.

²¹ Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts. (1 John 5:18-21 NLT)

I know that the sun will come up this morning.

I know that God is present with me as I begin this day.

I know that Jesus is the One and Only Son of God.

I know that heaven is my ultimate home.

I know how to follow God. I know how to worship God. I know how to honor Him. I know how to live for Him. I’ve often said that I have to “go with what I know until my feelings catch up”. The things I know about God are non-negotiable.  I know what I know. I’m still growing in my knowledge of Him and the depths of His love, mercy and grace.
