I Can Imagine
I can have a pretty vivid imagination. I can imagine a changed life because I’ve seen it happen. I can visualize the potential of a renovated house because I’ve seen one and sold one. I can visualize what it will be like to be 75 years old even though I’m only 17 or so years away. I have to admit that I struggle to imagine what heaven will be like. I almost always get immediately overloaded trying to wrap my head around a place like heaven. Nothing here on earth could possibly compare to heaven, except maybe some amazing times of worship when God’s Presence filled the room.
This morning I awoke to the news that a family friend had arrived in heaven. She was young woman; wife & mother of two boys. She fought cancer valiantly. She is now taking in sights that I can only try to imagine. My heart hurts because her sweet spirit left this earth. My heart yearns for the home she’s now seeing because death is indeed more about an arrival to heaven than a departure from this earth. Check this out…
2 And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. 3 The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—like jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow. (Revelation 4:2-3 NLT)
This sweet song really speaks some of my thoughts after reading this passage:
I can only imagine what it will be like
When I walk, by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When you face is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by You glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine when that day comes
When I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I would do is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
(written by Bart Marshall Millard of Mercy Me)
I will come before the Lord today trying to wrap my head around all that He has promised heaven to be like. I grieve with hope. I am really comforted by His Presence here as I walk this earth. I know He has something really significant in heaven that is beyond describing with human language. For now, my imagination, His Word and His Spirit will keep me yearning to arrive there soon.
Pressing On!
