Humility & Wealth

Hand giving moneyIt seems that it’s nearly impossible for these two characteristics to coexist in a person. I believe that it’s easy to have self-confidence in my own abilities to perform and forget that the Lord is the One Who gifted me and blessed me. He is the Source of all that I know and all that I have. I am not a wealthy man relative to earthly riches and a really fat bank account. I am extremely wealthy in so many ways that I can’t begin to count.

Ezekiel was pounding on the King of Tyre with judgmental and destructive words because the Lord told him to. Check this out…

4 By your wisdom and understanding

you have gained wealth for yourself

and amassed gold and silver

    in your treasuries.

5 By your great skill in trading

    you have increased your wealth,

and because of your wealth

    your heart has grown proud.

15 You were blameless in your ways

from the day you were created

till wickedness was found in you. (Ezekiel 28:4-5,15 NIV)

I feel like people of great wealth might find it a bit too easy to take their eyes of the Lord and focus too much on their wealth. Wealth is temporary to this world and will not transfer to eternity. I would be wise to invest in eternal wealth instead of simply earthly wealth. I was reminded of the wisdom of the Apostle Paul that was shared with the young man Timothy. Check this out….

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10 NIV)

It’s important to constantly keep a proper perspective with money. It is a tool to serve me and I do not serve it. I do want to earn a level of comfort with money in order to provide properly for those I love the most and also be a blessing to others. I firmly believe that humility can most certainly accompany wealth.

Pressing On!
