Home

I enjoy being home. I learned during our “Shelter in Place” that I enjoyed being home. I also learned that I like my work and going to the office to work. I do like to go camping and I like a bit of travel, but I always love coming back home.  Home is a relative subject. Home is connected to family. I grew up in Kentucky and I will often ask my mom, “How are things back home?”  Her home is here in Georgia, but she spent most of her life in Kentucky.  I guess home to me is wherever my family is.  In less than 2 weeks my kids who make their “home” in California will be home and the time together will be sweet.

When Solomon became King of Israel, he got things started with the building of the Temple. It was a huge task.  Solomon writes to Hiram, King of Tyre to ask for suppies and craftsmen to help. Check this out….

“This must be a magnificent Temple because our God is greater than all other gods. But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him? (2 Chronicles 2:5-6 NLT)

I think Solomon realized that no matter how big and magnificent the Temple would be, it still couldn’t contain the entire Presence of God. I was reminded that when Jesus, God’s One and Only Son was crucified on the cross for the sins of the world, that God’s dwelling place became the hearts of man. He no longer dwelt in a place made with hands. He dwells in our “earthly tent” – our body if we welcome Him. Check this out….

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. (2 Corinthians 4:6-7 NLT)

The Lord wants to dwell in my heart and make His home here. In order for there to be room for Him in my heart, I must surrender my heart to Him for Him to clean out and make room. If there is a lot of me and my selfish desires there, then there isn’t room for Him. I think it’s a daily task to make room for Him. I even need His help in order to make room.

One of my favorite songs about Home is Phillip Phillips song called Home.

…..Just know your not alone, I’m gonna make this place your home.

I want to Lord to dwell in my heart the rest of my days on earth. I want others to see Him when they see me. I want to begin my day clearing out space in my heart for Him to have the “run of the house”.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
