Holy Ground Moment
There is a church near my home called Holy Ground Baptist Church. I’m sure the name comes from the incident of Moses and the burning bush. I have heard this story since I was a kid. It was an up-close encounter between God and Moses. I think that up until now, Moses was relatively happy with his life. He probably didn’t not see the hand of God on his life and his back story. Check this out…
1One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, (aka Reuel) the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai (aka Horeb) the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. 3 “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.”
4 When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
“Here I am!” Moses replied.
5 “Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. 6 I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.(Exodus 3:1-6 NLT)
I must confess that I’ve never heard the audible voice of God from a bush or a tree. I have felt the call of God upon my heart. I have felt the Lord leading me in a particular direction at a specific time in my life. I remember clearly feeling called to ministry back in 1980. I also remember when the Lord released me from occupational ministry. I was really seeking Him with what the next chapter of my life looked like. I really felt like my days of full-time vocational ministry was complete. I can see much clearer now how the Lord has used me to serve so many people as a REALTOR and businessman. I think “Holy Ground” moments come when the Lord decides to move and act in my life. I also believe that “Holy Ground” moments can happen when I’m lost in worship of Creator God. I believe “Holy Ground” moments happen often unannounced. I believe Holy Ground moments can happen in the weirdest places. God is everywhere and in everything. He can use the most mundane moments or the most spectacular moments to speak or show up. Holy Ground moments can happen in the quietness of my home or the noise of a busy, buzzing office. They can happen on the basketball court or in the moments beside a stream of water. God’s Presence is what makes Holy Ground Holy. It is not my personal experience – it is His Presence. My heart must be in pursuit of God to even notice Holy Moments or Holy Ground experiences.
I want to be ready today for a Holy Ground moment with the Lord. My heart is His home and His Presence goes before me – goes behind me and goes beside me. I want others to notice in Presence deep in my soul by the way I live, speak and the decisions I make.
Pressing On!
