Help & Hope
These two words connect together pretty well. Help is the action of assisting someone else do something that they couldn’t likely do on their own. Hope, on the other hand, is a feeling of expectation that something is going to happen. I actually need both of these attributes as I walk through life. I need help and hope from the Lord. He promises His Presence and with His Presence come help and hope. Jeremiah has the daunting task of prophesying the discipline that the Lord issued upon His people. Through the discipline, He still offers help and hope. Check this out…
1While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him a second time: 2 “This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: 3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
14 “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.
15 “‘In those days and at that time
I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
he will do what is just and right in the land.
16 In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will live in safety.
This is the name by which it will be called:
The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’ (Jeremiah 33:1-4;14-16 NIV)
I now know that Jesus came to earth and brought both help and hope. He brings help through the Comforter (aka Holy Spirit) and He brings hope of life after this life. Actually this life is a “dress rehearsal” for eternal life. I can’t imagine not having hope of eternity. I can’t imagine not having Him help through every day, walking around kind of life. The good news is that I don’t have to imagine it – He is with me and He is for me!
Pressing On!
