Heart Work Check-Up
There are all kinds of physical work that I can do to keep my body in decent shape. I can also exercise regularly. I still think it’s important to go to the Doctor for routine check-ups to make sure that nothing is going on that I’m not aware of. I think one thing the doctor does pretty regularly when I visit is check my heart. He draws blood work to check for any issues there. There is a physical check-up that begins with my heart and a spiritual check-up that begins in the same place. Check this out…
1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.(Proverbs 3:1-6 NIV)
The Lord is really concerned about my heart because my actions follow my heart. He wants me to surrender the “spiritual control center” to Him. He wants my obedience to Him to flow out of my heart. As kids grow up most all parents focus on behavior. I think we would be wise to keep checking on the heart of our kids. If their heart is soft and shapeable, their actions are more likely to be within the boundaries that the Lord gives. If they are living simply to please me, then one day they will choose their own way instead of following the Lord.
I want to begin again to day with surrender of my heart to the Lord. He will prompt me. He will direct my actions. He will love others through me.
