Heart Management
As I get older, I think about the functionality of my heart. There are people younger than me and older than me that have “heart conditions” and they must be under the care of a cardiologist. This muscle near the center of my chest keeps blood flowing throughout my body for me to live on this earth. Proper diet and exercise can help with heart health for sure. I think it’s also wise to start thinking of my 60-year-old heart back when I was in my 20’s! So here we are, going for check-ups and taking medicine that keeps my heart healthy longer.
King David pens a bunch of Psalms that are related to my soul or my “spiritual heart”. Just like my physical heart, I wish I had started working on it at a younger age. I’m thankful for the Grace of God that He makes my spiritual heart grow and expand without the constraints of time. King David offers a great prayer for our heart management. Check this out…
12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins!
Don’t let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt
and innocent of great sin.
14 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:12-14 NLT)
My words come from all sorts of input that I purposely put in my mind. I say purposely because I can control it. I can avoid negative influences like certain songs, or certain people or even situations. I make choices that either help my heart to grow and expand my deep faith or my choices cause my faith to shrink and callouses can form on my heart.
I’m always asking the Lord to help me with management of my heart. He is so patient and so kind. His grace and love are amazing. I need Him all day every day to help me manage my spiritual heart.
Pressing On!
