Hearsay
I heard a rumor about me that wasn’t true. Hearsay is information received from others that can’t be substantiated. Hearsay is also defined as hearing someone else say something and then repeat it – this is not allowed in court proceedings. It’s like a person overhears and eyewitness and testifies instead of the eyewitness. Hearsay can be very damaging to others as it falls into gossip very quickly. I do believe “Hearsay” can be positive as well. Check this out…
2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (3 John 1:2-4 NIV)
I love hearsay about my kids walking in the truth. I can’t be there to witness each incident, but I can investigate further. I want people to hear that I’m walking in the truth. I want to be faithful in serving the Lord and walking out my faith. When I walk out the truth, my life brings great honor to my Creator. If others see my faith lived out and walked out, then it’s testimony and not hearsay.
I hear enough bad things – I’m thankful when I hear good things about another person. I think I keep feeding those types of rumor and hearsay. In fact, I will err on the side of good hearsay versus believing the worst about a person first.
