Healing & Restoration

I’ve known people who have been in major car accidents and have multiple bone fractures and lacerations that put them in the hospital for several weeks or months. They and their doctors often have to make decisions about which injury is the priority. On the other hand, some small wounds appear to heal overnight. A small cut on my skin starts to heal and in just a few hours has a good scab that encrusts the wound to allow further healing beneath the surface.

I am often in need of prioritizing of my soul wounds that need healing. Some of them are small like a small cut.  Some of my soul wounds require weeks and months of seeking God’s heart – His direction and His healing.

Jeremiah was still in captivity because they didn’t like the prophesies he was bringing from the Lord. The Lord kept speaking through him and he kept up his warnings. He warned them that they can’t stop the punishment that the Lord was bringing on them because of their wickedness and disobedience.  He also told them that healing, and restoration would come after a season of punishment. ⁶ “Nevertheless, the time will come when I will heal Jerusalem’s wounds and give it prosperity and true peace. ⁷ I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel and rebuild their towns. ⁸ I will cleanse them of their sins against me and forgive all their sins of rebellion. ⁹ Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! The people of the world will see all the good I do for my people, and they will tremble with awe at the peace and prosperity I provide for them. (Jeremiah 33:6-9 NLT)

This punishment from the Lord was prior to Jesus coming to earth. Jesus came as a descendent of King David. Jesus came as the King of all Kings. He was also the final sacrifice needed for sin. He has covered all my sin. He brought healing and restoration to everyone who trusts Him. He brought healing and restoration between me and God. His Presence in me brings healing and restoration to my deep or shallow soul wounds. When Jesus came to earth, the law of love came with Him. He is the Ultimate Healer. He is the Ultimate Restorer of my soul.

I know people who have been in their own captivity for years because of unresolved guilt and sin. I know others who have been angry and bitter at another person for 30 years or more. They need healing and restoration. I believe that healing and restoration starts with surrender to His Will and His Way. Jesus defined forgiveness and taught the value of the concept to others. He forgave the very ones who killed Him. He is still teaching me about the healing that comes with forgiveness. I have a role to play in my own healing and restoration – I must lay down my pride and stubborn heart and surrender to Him completely. He is the Source of healing and restoration for my soul.
