Harvest

garden harvestI love where I live because we have four distinct seasons. As we move out of winter and into spring, it is time to plant new seeds. The garden gets planted, flowers are planted & the growing season begins. In late summer and fall, the seeds of what has been planted comes to fruition via the harvest. It’s interesting to think of what happens inside the ground as the seed that is planted actually dies in order to bring new life. A seed of corn produces a harvest many times over.

Paul speaks directly to the churches at Galatia about the law of the harvest. Check this out….

Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. (Galatians 6:7-10 NLT)

When I think deeper about the law of the harvest it’s like my mind is the soil. The soil is indifferent to what we plant there. We could plant a deadly plant, or we could plant life giving food. The soil will produce what is planted. My mind is like the soil in that what I put into my mind is what comes out of my mouth or is lived out in my behavior. I believe that Paul is teaching the Galatians to live a well-disciplined, on-purpose life. We sow seeds of righteousness in order to reap a harvest of righteousness. I like to sow seeds of love, believing that I’ll reap a harvest of love in return.

The law of the harvest is a law – we can’t plant corn and hope that green beans come out of the ground. We can ONLY reap that which we’ve planted. My life today is a result of seeds I’ve planted years and months ago. These few verses really speak tremendous and profound truth. I feel called by the Lord to sow seeds of love, kindness and respect for others. I will harvest love, kindness and respect in return. The harvest I receive is directly connected to the seeds I’ve sown. The ones who sow wild oats will reap the “fall out” of that. I want to be disciplined in what I do and say today because it will result in a harvest in the weeks and months to come.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
