Guidance

I remember going to my guidance counselor in High School as I started trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life. She was responsible for helping me with my school schedule and helping me make sure I had the proper credits to graduate. I made it to college where I also needed counseling. I was preparing for a career in ministry and I would seek the counsel of my college professors and instructors. I’m convinced that everyone needs guidance every now and then. I wanted to follow the Lord’s leading way back then. I still want to follow His leading even more so now. One of the things I almost always get from seeking counsel is perspective. As the saying goes: “It’s hard to see the forest for all the trees”.

I’ve been in studying the history of God’s people in Genesis and Exodus. They have been slaves in Egypt for 430 years. The Lord was leading them out of Egypt and He provided special help. Check this out…..

21 The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. 22 And the Lord did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people. (Exodus 13:21-22 NLT)

I love it when I feel the Presence of God leading me. I sometimes wish He would send me a cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night. I loved that first line that the Lord goes ahead of them.  My daughter wrote a song a while back that says it well.

He goes before me

He stands behind me

Every step I take You place in front of me.

And through my weakness, you shine your faithfulness

So in all I do, I just let You be You.

Your love flows through.

The whole song is called Your Love Flows Throughwritten and sang by Kristen Hicks.

Today as I begin this day, I want to seek the Lord’s guidance and counsel each step I take. I want His favor. I want His Presence. I’m coming to Him with a surrendered heart again and again.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
