Guard My Mouth

perfect mouthMy mouth has been responsible for a lot of harsh and hurtful things. I have said things that I wish I hadn’t said. I’ve said things that reveal that there is more going on inside my heart and my head than is expected or noticed. My mouth reveals my heart. My mouth can’t say anything on it’s own. My mind instructs my mouth what to say.  I need a mouth guard, but to guard my mouth, I need to guard my heart first. Check this out…

3 Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;

    keep watch over the door of my lips.
4 Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil

    so that I take part in wicked deeds

along with those who are evildoers;

    do not let me eat their delicacies.
5 Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness;

   let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head.

My head will not refuse it,

    for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.
8 But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord;

    in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
9 Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers,

    from the snares they have laid for me.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,

    while I pass by in safety. (Psalm 141:3-5;8-10 NIV)

I want my words to be seasoned with the very Spirit of God. I want my words to be encouraging and inspiring.  I want my heart to be wide open in pursuit of God’s heart. I need to keep directing my eyes away from the distractions of this world and fix my eyes on Him. He will guide my steps. He will give me insight and wisdom. He also provides discernment in large doses.

I am also willing to submit to the direction or guidance – even rebuke from a brother or sister who is pursuing righteousness. He or she can call me out if and when it’s needed. I would be wise to allow other Christ followers to speak into my life.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
