God’s Word At Work
I can’t possibly begin to describe the difference that God’s Word has made in my life. I wouldn’t know Jesus if not for the Word of God. My parents who first taught me of Jesus wouldn’t know Him if were not for the Word of God entrusted to others who then taught them. It really does boil down to the fact: I wouldn’t know Jesus if it were not for the written Word of God, known as The Bible.
I really enjoy my journey through the Word each day because The Lord speaks something new into my heart. He sometimes underscores something He’s already said to me previously. He must know that I need to hear it again. This morning was no different, the Apostle Paul is speaking to the church at Thessalonica in his first letter to them and he challenges those on the journey with him. Check this out…
11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. 13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. (1 Thessalonians 2:11-13 NIV)
When I read the Word of God, I do believe it’s as if The Lord is speaking directly into my heart some great truth that He wants me to know. Sometimes the truth is quite simple – yet profound. At other times I’m thinking, ”you just told me that a few days ago.” The Word of God speaks into my heart each time I read His Word IF I’m listening. I believe this to be by way of The Holy Spirit – the Comforter that Jesus spoke about to His disciples prior to His departure from earth physically.
I can’t begin to describe the way my journey was changed when I started opening the Word of God daily the first part of my day – He has started speaking into me wisdom beyond description. He prompts me in conversations. He stirs my heart to action when I notice hurting people. He gives me wisdom and discernment in all sorts of ways. To me it comes down to me receiving the Word of God and letting Him work in me as I walk with Him. I’m ok if He needs to say something similar to me tomorrow – I’ll take it in and apply it to my walk.
Pressing On! Dwayne
