Gifted
I have had the privilege of being around gifted musicians over the years. There is no other explanation as to how they picked up a musical instrument and learned so fast. I remember picking up a guitar very early on and learning to play 3 simple chords. I later realized that I could hear where the song was going and what chord was coming next. I didn’t understand why others couldn’t “hear” that. My family heritage has a lot of music gifting along the way. I was just remembering the other day a lady that I went to college with who had perfect pitch. She could hear a song and tell you what key it was in. She could hear a note on a piano and tell you what note it was. That is a gift. I had the privilege, just last night, of hearing a new song that my daughter is working on- songwriting is a gift.
The Lord had given Moses some detailed instructions on what he and the people were to build for the tabernacle. He had quite a list including the alter of incense, lampstand, table, utensils, and many more items. The Lord then revealed how it was to get finished. Check this out…
1Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 ‘See I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills – 4 to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, 5 to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.(Exodus 31:1-5 NIV)
There is a huge difference in giftedness and skill set. I believe giftedness is from Creator God and skills can be learned. I believe that anyone who set their mind to it could learn to play the guitar, but I also believe that some people have special giftedness that catapults them ahead of others. They know things about music that they don’t know they know.
The Lord had gifted and chosen this man Bezalel to being the designer and gave him understanding how to do all the work for the tabernacle. I think it’s so cool that the first gift is being filled with the Spirit of God. I love seeing God’s hand at work in others. I love hearing a song that The Spirit of God gave someone to share. I remember writing a song in my living room years ago that was really a simple worship song from my heart to sing before the Lord.
I also believe that the Lord provides opportunity for me to learn new skills and sometimes these skills are complimented by my giftedness. Sometimes these new skills have little to do with my giftedness. I believe the Lord provides both the ability to learn a new skill and the ability to discover my giftedness. I believe that everyone who’s alive has a gift from God. He will help discover the gift and also direct the proper use of the gift. I also believe that Jesus was a gift to the world. Because of Jesus, we all have the opportunity to have the gift of an abundant life now and eternal life later.
