Getting Old

Elderly man prayingI probably shouldn’t say “I’m getting old” – the fact is that “OLD” is a relative term. Some people would say you’re only as old as you feel. That’s not necessarily true, but some age more gracefully than others. On most days I “feel” pretty young. On other days I feel older than my parents.  If I’m old then that means people older than me are really old.  I’m really pretty thankful to have lived a good life to this point. I think it was somewhere in my early 40’s that getting old became a sobering thought. I realized that life was really like a vapor or mist. I have heard it said that, “I’d rather make my days count, than to count my days.” Paul says something like that to the church at Corinth. Check this out….

7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.(2 Corinthians 4:7-10; 16-18 NIV)

I want to be strong and faithful in the face of temptation.

I want to honor God with all my choices today and the rest of my days.

I want to lean on the Lord no matter if things are good or bad.

I want to be a positive influence for the Lord to others along this journey.

I want to have a positive attitude no matter what circumstances I’m in.

I want to love deeply because I’m loved beyond describing.

I want my faith in God to be clearly seen in how I live my life.

I want to live for what is eternal not the temporary things I see.

Living with the end in mind sure can keep me focused on Who and What really matters.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
