Get Moving
One of the things I really like about my job is that I get to help people move. There are some people who are moving in to West Georgia and some who are moving out. Then there are those who are moving across town. Some people are “moving up” while others are downsizing. Our real estate firm loves to help people move. It’s often very exciting and adventurous. There are times that it’s painful to move because of the memories.
All throughout this day, there will be people on the move – coming in or going out. I have to confess that I enjoy being on the move too. When I’m on the move, I feel like progress at some level is happening. Over the years though, I’ve learned to be still, quiet and patient waiting on the Lord to tell me where to move too next.
The Lord gave Joshua instructions about how he was to lead the nation of Israel as they began their conquest of the Promised Land. Check this out…
1 Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. 2 After three days the officers went throughout the camp, 3 giving orders to the people: ‘When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.’
5 Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’ (Joshua 3:1-5 NIV)
I love the picture here – the strategy is when the ark moves, we move. The people were given the time to move by the Lord. They were also given the direction to move by Him – “then you will know which way to go, since you have never been here before”. I will confess that I’ve got a lot of stuff already scheduled this week and next week – places to be, appointments to be kept – but He must be at the center of my schedule. The late great Yogi Berra was famous for saying: When you come to a fork in the road – take it.” As a leader, I often come to “forks in the road” and I’m not sure which way – He will direct and prompt my next step, IF I will listen and watch for His directions.
I really want to move when He says move and sit down when He says to rest. I want to be so in tune with His Spirit in me that He is living in me and through me to touch others and serve them. I want the Lord to not only tell me when to move but where to move too.
Pressing On!
