Get Dressed

Every morning I have a similar routine for getting ready to go to work. I get out of my sleep clothes, shave and shower and put on “work clothes”. If I’m walking property with a client, I will probably wear jeans and boots. If I’m showing homes, I’ll wear dress slacks and a nice shirt. I try to dress appropriately for the different occasions that I’m part of on that particular day. I also think it’s very important to clothe myself with the Word of God and allow the Holy Spirit of God to dwell inside me. Isaiah speaks to the children of Israel and tells them about getting dressed. Check this out…

But my salvation will last for ever,

    my righteousness will never fail.

7 ‘Hear me, you who know what is right,

    you people who have taken my instruction to heart:

do not fear the reproach of mere mortals

    or be terrified by their insults.

8 For the moth will eat them up like a garment;

    the worm will devour them like wool.

But my righteousness will last for ever,

    my salvation through all generations.’

9 Awake, awake, arm of the Lord,

    clothe yourself with strength!

Awake, as in days gone by,

    as in generations of old.

15 For I am the Lord your God,

    who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar –

    the Lord Almighty is his name.

16 I have put my words in your mouth

    and covered you with the shadow of my hand –

I who set the heavens in place,

    who laid the foundations of the earth,

    and who say to Zion, “You are my people.”’ (Isaiah 51:6b-9a;15-16 NIV)

 

As I read and study the Word of God, I draw strength and courage. I notice His Presence. I notice His guidance on my journey. I want to clothe myself with strength that comes from Him. I want to wear the armor of God that protects me and defends me as well as arms me for the offensive against the enemy. I can’t imagine trying to live my life without the Presence of God. I need Him living in me. I need Him advising me. I need Him leading me. I want to His help getting dressed for my day.
