Future Generations
I sometimes catch myself wondering what my family heritage will look like in years ahead. I’m not that person who predicts the Lord’s return in the next 15 years. I should really try to live every day like it could be my last day here on earth because it could. If the Lord does not return for 15 or 20 more years, what will my family look like? If I’m alive, I’ll be an older man and my kids will be middle aged. Will future generations of my family love the Lord and serve Him?
The Lord noticed the family of Jehonadab who lived differently than others around them. Check this out…
18 Then Jeremiah said to the family of the Rekabites, “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed the command of your forefather Jehonadab and have followed all his instructions and have done everything he ordered.’ 19 Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab will never fail to have a descendant to serve me.’” (Jeremiah 35:18-19 NIV)
I believe this passage to be a high compliment paid to the family of Jehonadab. His family simply obeyed the instructions from his fathers before Him. The instructions were of a different lifestyle than everyone else. They lived day to day differently. They followed the Lord by following instructions from their ancestors. I really want future generations of my family to love the Lord and seek His face. I want my children, their children and their children’s children to see the Lord with their whole heart. I believe it starts with me. I want to have a heart devoted to the Lord and I want to reflect His leadership over me in every area of my life. I want my spiritual values deeply planted in my kids. I want them to really know the Lord and to notice how His Presence and His Power change EVERYTHING! I don’t really care about how wealthy my kids become or how popular – I just want future generations of my family to seek and serve the Lord God.
Pressing On!
