From Now On
These three words are powerful reminders that a pivot has been made. An event or a “wake-up call” happened that helped shift my attention. I remember the location when I first believed in God and really began to trust Him. I remember when certain events took place in my life that rocked me to my core. I love celebrating birthdays with my children because I remember them coming into this world. In the case of my youngest son, I remember the night we landed in Atlanta when we brought into our country and our home for the first time. This past week I was remembering 9/11 and the vicious attacks on our country those years ago. Some events that I remember were not positive, but they remind me to keep my eyes centered on my Creator because He’s the One that never changes or leaves.
Moses & Aaron are preparing the people of Israel for the Passover. This is the first round of feast that will last for generations. It has great significance because this one plague that the Lord is about to unleash upon the Egyptians will finally break Pharaoh’s resolve. From now on, the people of Israel will remember being saved from slavery in Egypt. Check this out….
14 “This is a day to remember. Each year, from generation to generation, you must celebrate it as a special festival to the Lord. This is a law for all time. 15 For seven days the bread you eat must be made without yeast. On the first day of the festival, remove every trace of yeast from your homes. Anyone who eats bread made with yeast during the seven days of the festival will be cut off from the community of Israel. 16 On the first day of the festival and again on the seventh day, all the people must observe an official day for holy assembly. No work of any kind may be done on these days except in the preparation of food.
17 “Celebrate this Festival of Unleavened Bread, for it will remind you that I brought your forces out of the land of Egypt on this very day. This festival will be a permanent law for you; celebrate this day from generation to generation.(Exodus 12:14-17 NLT)
I have recently been reminded to discover my “Why” in the activities that I do. My “Why” speaks volumes about what is important to me – my values. I have discovered a few activities that don’t serve my values. I have also discovered some new activities to replace the old ones. I want to continue to grow, discover and learn more about how my life can impact and influence others for good. I need to not be deceived by fame or fortune. I must be steady to follow the Lord’s call upon my life.
From Now On is also a song in the movie “The Greatest Showman”where P.T. Barnhamis in such pursuit of his dream that he almost gives up his family. He makes a pivot in the movie and sings this great song, “From Now On”. This song really moves my heart because it’s like he drives a stake in the ground and decides to do life differently. It’s a declaration that life will be different from now on.
I need to make these declarations quite often. I want to make this declaration at the start of a new day that this day will be lived to honor God and build my family and my life in Him. I do not want to be self-centered and living for only me. I want my life’s work to serve the Lord and possibly bless others as well.
From now on I’m going to be grateful.
From now on I’m going to be faithful to His call upon my heart.
From now on I’m going to grow in my love for others.
From now on, my heart is surrendered to Him.
Pressing On!
