Follow Through

There are times that I’m better at this than others. It’s one thing to follow through on a phone call or an email or simple paperwork needed to get the work completed. I been told for years to complete my “follow through” on my golf swing. I’ve resigned to the fact that I’m a “hacker” instead of a golfer. It is true that when I follow through the ball goes straighter and longer – or so it seems.

I believe “follow through” is a great characteristic in my walk with the Lord. He loves my obedience more than He loves my worship. He loves my obedience more than my words. My obedience to the Lord screams out my trust in Him.

Joshua was the protégé of Moses. He was one of the 12 spies that originally went into the land promised to Israel to scout it out. He came back saying, with the Lord’s help, we can take this land.  The people believed the 10 spies who were scared, so they turned back and wandered for 40 years until they were back again. Moses died and Joshua was charged with leading the people. He led the people while consistently following the Lord. He followed through with the instruction and tasked of conquering the land for The Lord. Check this out…

15 As the Lord had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua. And Joshua did as he was told, carefully obeying all the commands that the Lord had given to Moses.

23 So Joshua took control of the entire land, just as the Lord had instructed Moses. He gave it to the people of Israel as their special possession, dividing the land among the tribes. So the land finally had rest from war. (Joshua 11:15,23 NLT)

I want to be consistent in my “follow through”. If I said I would, then I will.

I want to be faithful and steady in seeking the Lord each day of my life.

I want to hear Him speak and give me directions about the tasks I should be doing.

I want to go when He says go. I want to stand still when He says to stop.

I want to walk faithfully before Him and follow through on what I say I believe. Talk can be cheap, but actions are much stronger and louder than words. My follow through in my faith should be obvious because it calls for me to be consistent in character, choices and content of my words.

I don’t see my “follow through” as being as significant as that of Joshua, but I’m called to be faithful and live out my faith each day that I live. I plan to do just that.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
