Focused

FieldThere are times when my eyesight frustrates me. I am a mono-vision person. I have one eye for reading up close and the other eye for seeing far away. I recently renewed my driver’s license and as I was doing the eye exam part, I realized I couldn’t get the numbers to focus. The examiner explained to me that mono vision would not work. It felt like someone was trying to focus a movie on a projector that wouldn’t focus.  Some days, my work feels just like that. I can’t seem to keep focused on the task at hand. Distractions pull me away. I recently made a concerted effort to start daily goal setting and writing down a task list to keep me moving forward each day. It has made a huge difference in my productivity.

The church at Corinth had issues with focusing on the wrong things. Paul really calls them out regarding the resurrection of Jesus. They became distracted on this very important topic and couldn’t seem to focus on what was important. He speaks clearly to them about the most important part of our belief system. Check this out….

16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:16-22,58 NIV)

I want to focus on my task list for today, but I also want to keep my eye on the Big Picture of eternity. The things I do and the choices I make today have significance upon my eternal life. I want to focus on the things that Christ puts on my heart today. I want to honor Him writing listing contracts, showing houses, or my activities as a broker. I want to focus on Him first and then all the other activities and tasks will find their place.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
