Flourish
This word carries with it lots of energy and vitality. It speaks to thriving rather than just surviving. It speaks of going on the offense instead of defense. I think everyone would want their life to flourish and grow. I’ve always felt if I’m not growing, then I’m dying. I’m not content with status quo. I’m also not content with resting in my relationship with God from yesterday. “His compassions are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23a NIV). I’m thankful that the Lord wants to know me at a deeper level. I certainly want the same – I want to know more of Who He is and discover more of His heart.
David penned some very eloquent ways of understanding God and seeking Him. I love the picture of a flourishing tree. Check this out…
8 But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
for ever and ever.
9 For what you have done I will always praise you
in the presence of your faithful people.
And I will hope in your name,
for your name is good. (Psalm 52:8-9 NIV)
I want to flourish before the Lord. I want to live and grow in His Presence. I want to notice all that He is doing in my life and have deep and profound gratitude for all He’s doing. I want to give thanks and praise Him for Who He is. I want to keep my confidence in Him and His great name. This reminded me of a great song by Natalie Grant called: “Your Great Name”.
Lost are saved,
find their way,
at the sound of Your great name
All condemned,
feel no shame,
at the sound of Your great name
Every fear,
has no place,
at the sound of Your great name
The enemy,
he has to leave,
at the sound of Your great name
Jesus, worthy is the lamb
that was slain for us,
son of God and man
You are high and lifted up,
that all the world will praise
Your great name
All the weak,
find their strength,
at the sound of Your great name
Hungry souls,
receive grace,
at the sound of Your great name
The fatherless,
they find their rest,
at the sound of Your great name
Sick are healed,
and the dead are raised,
at the sound of Your great name
Jesus, worthy is the lamb
that was slain for us,
son of god and man
You are high and lifted up,
that all the world will praise Your great name
Oh, Your great name
Redeemer, my healer, almighty
My Savior, defender, You are my king
