Fight For Me
There were times growing up that I found myself defending someone else on the playground because they were my friends. I was willing to fight on their behalf against a bully or another group of kids who were pushing them around. As I’ve grown older, I find myself fighting differently for others. If I’m in a position of leadership, I lead on behalf of others. Our elected officials are supposed to work on behalf of the people who elected them. It’s an honor to fight on someone else’s behalf. It’s also humbling and an honor to have someone fight on my behalf.
The Lord fought on behalf of His people in the conquest of the Promised Land. He even did some miraculous actions to seal the deal. Check this out…
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel! (Joshua 10:13b-14 NIV)
I can’t imagine the sun standing still for nearly an extra day. I do love it when the days are long and we have more daylight to be outside and about. The Lord caused the sun to stand still so that Joshua and the people of Israel could finish what they had started. The Lord also fought their enemies on their behalf. It was really clear to everyone throughout this land that The Lord was fighting on behalf of Israel.
I need to Lord to fight on my behalf today. I need Him to go before me to the people I will encounter and prepare them for my encounter with them. I also need Him to help me find favor with others. I want it to be obvious to everyone that the Lord is for me. I am committed to Him as my Lord and He is committed to me as His kid.
This passage made me think of a song by Kari Jobe. https://youtu.be/UbSMfL5LuSo This song blesses my heart and settles my soul.
If the Lord is for me, I’m not concerned about the ones who would line up against me. He is absolutely over all and in all.
Pressing On!
