Faithfully Follow

There is something special about someone who is consistent. There is something about someone delivering on their promises every time. That person is dependable, reliable and responsible. I may not like every decision that they make, but I have learned to respect people who live by their convictions. They are somewhat predictable as well. I actually try to do all of the above. I want to live my life faithfully following the Lord in every situation.

When Solomon appoints his son to succeed him as king, it appears to be a disaster. The kingdom is torn in two parts because of Rehoboam’s unwillingness to listen to the counsel of the elderly. Jeroboam would not allow people to worship God. Many left and moved so that they could worship freely. Check this out….

16 From all the tribes of Israel, those who sincerely wanted to worship the Lord, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem, where they could offer sacrifices to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. 17 This strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and for three years they supported Rehoboam son of Solomon, for during those years they faithfully followed in the footsteps of David and Solomon. (2 Chronicles 11:16-17 NLT)

This story reminded me a bit of the pilgrims who came to America for religious freedom. They wanted to worship God and they were limited and restricted where they were.

I think the Lord really likes it when I am consistent in following Him. I think He loves the faithful who seek to follow Him. I feel called to follow Him. I feel called to seek Him.  As I faithfully follow Him, I learn things about Him that I’m not sure I could have learned if I weren’t faithfully following Him.

Faithful and consistent are a bit synonymous. I respect people who are dependable and reliable. I also think that though it may not be really cool to be faithful and consistent – it displays great character and depth.

Pressing On!
