Faith At Home
I grew up going to church and talking about God. My parents’ faith was real to them and they helped make it real to me. My grandmother (Mammie) also lived out her faith every day. Her faith in God was obvious to me and to others.
I have some people “play the part” of having faith in the public eye only to act totally different at home when the public isn’t watching. I think it’s a tragedy when this happens because home is where faith is tested with a safety net. I believe my faith should be real all the time, or I’m simply a fraud or a fake.
So, Jesus heals this guy who was demon possessed. He was a totally mess when Jesus found him. Jesus cast the demons out and sends them into a herd of pigs, which was very noticeable and odd. When Jesus is about to leave the area, the man approached Jesus. Check this out….
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him. 19 But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.” 20 So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them. (Mark 5:18-20 NLT)
I see Jesus telling this guy that faith begins at home and then spreads to others.
I remember making a commitment to the Lord when I was serving as a full-time youth minister. I promised Him that my family at home was my first responsibility – they were my first youth group.
Faith at home begins in prayer for my family.
Faith at home begins with gratitude for the blessings from the Lord.
Faith at home includes the Word of God.
Faith at home means kindness and respect for everyone.
Faith at home includes serving one another with love.
Pressing On!
