Eternal Success

I remember hearing a preacher say that he had never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul trailer to the cemetery. His point was clear, that the things we earn and possess here on earth can’t be taken with us into eternity. Our earthly possessions sometimes become the end-all goal of life – to acquire more and more. This is a huge mistake to anyone who misses the point of this life. I believe that we were put here on earth to glorify and honor Creator God. He sent His One and Only Son (Jesus Christ) as the ultimate and final sacrifice for sin. Jesus paid for the Grace of God that now covers me and all who will choose to follow Him.

I was reminded this morning that there will always be people along the way who are wealthier and have more possessions than others. There are people who are content with being poor and broke. There are those who will step on or walk over anyone to gain a fast buck or simply get ahead of someone else. I believe that a person can be wealthy and honor the Lord with the wealth that they are blessed with. I also believe that a poor person can honor the Lord with their meager resources. It’s a heart condition, not a bank account or portfolio balance. The descendants of Korah speak to this. Check this out…

Redemption does not come so easily,
for no one can ever pay enough
to live forever
    and never see the grave.

15 But as for me, God will redeem my life.
He will snatch me from the power of the grave.

16 So don’t be dismayed when the wicked grow rich
and their homes become ever more splendid.
17 For when they die, they take nothing with them.
Their wealth will not follow them into the grave.
18 In this life they consider themselves fortunate
and are applauded for their success.
19 But they will die like all before them
and never again see the light of day.(Psalm 49:8-9,15-19 NLT)

All I have belongs to the Lord ultimately. I hope that I can leave and estate that encourages my children and their families one day. Most importantly, I hope to leave a legacy of following the Lord and seeking His heart every day. I don’t care about being famous as much as I want Him to become famous. He changed my life many years ago and He is still shaping my heart to be like His. I want the Lord to be honored in every email, phone call, text and personal interaction that I have today. I want to honor Him with my life here on earth as I continually pursue His heart. I want others to notice that my heart is His. I want others to want His heart too. It’s not theologically or scientifically deep – it’s simple trust and obedience to His Word. I’m certainly not perfect, but He is and He interceded to overcome my imperfections and my sin that I still struggle with. I’m playing the long game – the eternal one. I want my arrival in heaven to be celebrated by those who’ve gone before me as well as those who are coming to heaven after me.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
