Entourage
The term refers to a group of people attending to or surrounding a very important person. It really be weird to meet up with the President of the United States without him having an entourage with him. The Queen of England is always surrounded, or so it seems, but quite a huge entourage. People who are important are generally protected. They also need help getting through crowds of well-wishers or also people who wish them harm. King Solomon had quite an entourage as well. Check this out….
6 Who is this coming up from the wilderness like a column of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and incense made from all the spices of the merchant? 7 Look! It is Solomon’s carriage, escorted by sixty warriors, the noblest of Israel, 8 all of them wearing the sword, all experienced in battle, each with his sword at his side, prepared for the terrors of the night. 9 King Solomon made for himself the carriage; he made it of wood from Lebanon. 10 Its posts he made of silver, its base of gold. Its seat was upholstered with purple, its interior inlaid with love. (Song of Solomon 3:6-10 NIV)
One thing most every entourage has in common: there is an important person surrounded there and that person is a human being with skin on and a heart that can be hurt. We humans are all quite different, but still the same. We are all made in the image of our Creator. We love. We laugh. We hurt. We feel. We humans love to be loved and we get great joy out of loving others too. Sometimes I find my significance while loving and serving others. An entourage can be quite intimidating, but I was reminded that the person that is very important is also a lot like me.
