I returned home yesterday from a visit to Kentucky where we celebrated the life of my Uncle Brad Walden. The visitation line was long, as people waited patiently to speak to his family. His live obviously touched many others. He influenced hundreds and thousands of people with as devoted Pastor/Teacher. He lived his life to honor the Lord. He went to college to be an accountant. The Lord put a call upon his heart and he served as a pastor for over 40 years. He spent 14 years in retirement and preached in 56 churches during his retirement! The following passage described him well. Check this out….
1Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. 2 It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.(1 Corinthians 15:1-4 NLT)
I continued my daily reading this morning in Ecclesiastes and King Solomon talks about our short life. It spoke to me about making my life count much as my Uncle Brad had done so well. I can’t change my past, so I should spend too much time thinking about it. I will say that I have learned a lot of lessons in my past. I know lots of things that will not work. I know lots of mistakes to avoid. I have learned that some things from my past have a way of showing up in my future. As I start my work week today, I’m reminded to make today count as I live out my faith wherever I am. Check this out….
It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. 19 And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. 20 God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past. (Ecclesiastes 5:18b-20 NLT)
Today is a gift that is why it’s called the present! (Bill Keane) I want to choose activities and words that honor the Lord today. I want to keep a continual view of eternity as I live out today.
Pressing On!
