Dreaming
I like to dream. I like to have goals that accompany my dreams. Some dreams are scary and disturbing, while other dreams are filled with joy and excitement. I haven’t figured out how to manage my dreams that happen while I’m asleep. I have learned that the dreams I have while I’m awake need to have some added structure of detailed plans and ideas that point me in the direction of my dreams.
Joseph is the son of Jacob and he is the favorite. He was given special treatment and special gifts from his Dad. The special colorful robe that his dad gave him is known as the “coat of many colors”. The scripture records that Joseph had two dreams. In the first dream, his is the filed gathering and tying bundles of grain and the brothers bundles bowed down to Joseph’s bundle. This ticked the brothers off even more. Check this out…
9 Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. “Listen, I have had another dream,” he said. “The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!”
10 This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him. “What kind of dream is that?” he asked. “Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you?” 11 But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dreams meant.(Genesis 37:9-11 NLT)
As the text moves on, Josephs brother refer to him as the “dreamer” and they sell him in slavery and tell Dad that his son had been attacked by a lion and ripped to pieces. This story is pretty discouraging if it stopped here. The Lord is with Joseph and blesses him and directs his life. His dreams so come true, not because of his organizing and orchestrating them. His dreams come true because the Lord is working them out.
I have heard goals described as a “dream with a deadline”. I have started writing down my goals and ideas and working to fulfill them. It gives me clarity about the daily decisions and choices I make. Goals and dreams help motivate me to work smarter and harder. It is really cool to look back a few years to see how my life has progressed since I started writing down my dreams and goals. I don’t give a lot of attention to dreams that I have while sleeping. I like to give my attention to the dreams I have while I’m alert and wide awake. These are the dreams I can contribute my time and energy to. I want all my dreams to line up with the dreams that the Lord has for me.
I am inspired by Bob Goff who built the Dream Big Framework.
Pressing On!
