Dream Realized
I remember as a kid having some “big dreams” about what I would do with my life. I’ve adjusted my dreams over the years. I’ve had some dreams that were simply not meant to be fulfilled. Other dreams have been realized even though I wasn’t paying attention to them. The older I get the more I’ve been dreaming. I’ve been putting hands and feet to some of my dreams and actually working toward them. Some of my dreams from my younger years were shattered and had to be rebuilt. Other dreams I’m in the midst of living. Hopes and dreams give life to my daily journey.
Joseph’s brothers, who had sold him in to slavery were about to see the realization of the dreams he had shared with them as a young man. The famine was severe in their land and they heard that there was grain in Egypt. The reason there was grain in Egypt was because of Joseph’s interpreting the dreams of Pharaoh over 7 years ago. Egypt was prepared for the famine because of Josephs planning and organization during the 7 years of bountiful harvests. Check this out….
6 Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. 7 As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. “Where do you come from?” he asked.
“From the land of Canaan,” they replied, “to buy food.”
8 Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him. 9 Then he remembered his dreams about themand said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected.”
10 “No, my lord,” they answered. “Your servants have come to buy food. 11 We are all the sons of one man. Your servants are honest men, not spies.”(Genesis 42:6-10 NLT)
I think Joseph was having a bit of fun as this brothers’ expense. He had the upper hand because he could understand their language, but they didn’t recognize him or understand his language. I think they understood how powerful he was.
I think it’s very healthy to recognize a dream that has come true or been realized. I dreamed of one day being able get out of debt. It took a lot of work and a lifestyle change, but we made it! One of my dreams is to travel around our great country and visit a lot of national parks to see the beauty of our land. We intend to RV it! We are planning to make that dream a reality within 2 or 3 years.
Some dream of winning the lottery. Others dream of getting a huge inheritance. Still others dream of a “cushy job”, but never work toward that dream. Some dreams are pipe dreams with little or no chance of becoming reality. I’ve decided to let the Lord “vet my dreams”. I now dream and plan within the Lord’s will for me. Joseph had some control over his destiny. He remained faithful to the Lord in spite of the circumstances he faced for 20 years. I see his dreams fulfilled because he was faithful to the Lord. I want my hopes and dreams to be fulfilled through the Lord’s hopes and dreams for me. I want to walk out my faith daily and let Him use me however He chooses. He has already blessed me beyond my wildest dreams and yet there is possibly more to come. I am so thankful.
Pressing On!
