Doctor
I have invested significantly with several doctors in my area over the years. I’m not sick often, but I do have lots of allergy issues. I also have children who have visited the doctor quite often. When I’m feeling sick, I need a cure. The doctor has access to the medicines that can provide the cure. I also go to the doctor for a “check up” to make sure all the systems of my body are functioning properly. He will perform a physical check of my body and also test my blood to make sure all is well. So far, I’m pretty healthy. Jesus uses this same analogy to explain why He came. Check this out…
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:15-17 NIV)I’ve been a believer nearly all of my life. I still need Jesus because I realize that I’m still a sinner. I’m sick with sin and in need of the Only One who can heal my sickness. Jesus can clean up the dirtiest person. He can use anyone who submits to Him. If I think I’m healthy and don’t need Him, then He can’t help me. My pride and arrogance can keep me from the help I need. When I go to the doctor here at home and he gives me instructions, I’m an idiot if I don’t follow them – He’s trying to help me get well. Jesus is the Great Physician trying to help me stay spiritually healthy. I need Him every hour.
