Direction & Protection

Sometimes I pray what some may call a silly prayer. Just yesterday, I needed a small part for my pool pump, and it was after hours that the Pool Store would be opened. I talked to the Lord about this and I thought that I had kept the part from an old filter in the past. I walked into my shop and within seconds found the small part and fixed the pool filter.  I am still learning to pray about everything and worry about nothing.  It’s definitely easier said than done. I believe in the Lord’s direction and protection over my life.

I’m reading about the early history if Israel’s kings. Saul was the first king and he became arrogant and proud and disobeyed the Lords direction and the Lord made plans to replace him with David. David will become known as Israel’s greatest king. He was being hunted by Saul, who was jealous of him. The Lord is leading David for sure and not Saul. Check this out…..

Saul soon learned that David was at Keilah. “Good!” he exclaimed. “We’ve got him now! God has handed him over to me, for he has trapped himself in a walled town!” So Saul mobilized his entire army to march to Keilah and besiege David and his men.

But David learned of Saul’s plan and told Abiathar the priest to bring the ephod and ask the Lord what he should do. 10 Then David prayed, “O Lord, God of Israel, I have heard that Saul is planning to come and destroy Keilah because I am here. 11 Will the leaders of Keilah betray me to him? And will Saul actually come as I have heard? O Lord, God of Israel, please tell me.”

And the Lord said, “He will come.”

12 Again David asked, “Will the leaders of Keilah betray me and my men to Saul?”

And the Lord replied, “Yes, they will betray you.” (1 Samuel 23:7-12 NLT)

I think it’s important that David asked the Lord what to do. I think it’s equally important that David actually did what the Lord told him to do.  My struggle is listening and obedience. The Lord will prompt me. The Lord will speak to me. The Lord will warn me. I have to tune my ears to His frequency.  After hearing from the Lord, I now have a direct responsibility to act in obedience to His direction.  I believe that if I listen to the Lord’s direction then I have His protection and provision.

I’m so thankful for the Lord’s patience with my “hearing problem” and my “obedience problem”. I’m still growing and improving in both areas and He is so filled with grace and mercy as I stumble and bumble my way toward Him.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
