Descendants
I don’t really think of myself as having descendants. I have five children and currently three grandchildren. I thank the Lord very often for my family. I am a descendant of my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and on down the line. I am not really abscessed with my family tree, but I think it’s healthy to know where you came from. It’s way more important to know where I’m going and what I believe. I do think my faith in God was handed down through my family, but eventually it became my own faith and I am hopefully passing it down to my children, their children, their children’s children and so on.
If I look in the rear-view mirror (at my descendants) too long, I’m sure to run off the road that I’m on. The rear-view mirror on a car or truck is significantly smaller than the windshield so that we can see going forward. I was reminded of the impact of my life on future descendants to follow when I read the account of Noah and his sons.
32 These are the clans that descended from Noah’s sons, arranged by nation according to their lines of descent. All the nations of the earth descended from these clans after the great flood. (Genesis 10:32 NLT)
The Great Flood was a “reset” of sorts. Adam and Eve were the parents of all humans, but the Lord wiped out the entire population on earth except for Noah, his wife and his sons. They are also the parents of all humans. After the flood they reproduced, multiplied and populated the earth.
I loved the faithfulness of Noah and the favor he had with God. I want to walk out my faith each day with the Lord and I want to consistently seek the favor of God upon me, my family and my descendants. It’s a journey with the Lord not a destination.
Pressing On!
