Deliverer
I like seeing the UPS man stop at my office. It might very well mean that I have an Amazon package being delivered. If you’ve ever been summoned or subpoenaed to testify, it’s not as fun to receive that delivery. I don’t like being the deliverer of bad news. I would hate to be the guy who goes to someone’s house to break the news of a loved one’s death. There is a huge difference in the delivery and deliverer.
King Hezekiah was in need of a Deliverer. He received a delivery of a message that told him what was about to come. He was about to be attacked and destroyed by the Assyrian army. Check this out….
14 After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the Lord’s Temple and spread it out before the Lord. 15 And Hezekiah prayed this prayer before the Lord: 16 “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, God of Israel, you are enthroned between the mighty cherubim! You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth. 17 Bend down, O Lord, and listen! Open your eyes, O Lord, and see! Listen to Sennacherib’s words of defiance against the living God.
18 “It is true, Lord, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all these nations.19 And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all—only idols of wood and stone shaped by human hands. 20 Now, O Lord our God, rescue us from his power; then all the kingdoms of the earth will know that you alone, O Lord, are God.”(Isaiah 37:14-20 NLT)
I am in need of my Deliverer – The Lord Himself. He rescues me when I’m lost or stuck. He rescues me when I’m threatened. He has delivered me many times from my own stupid thoughts and behaviors. I really need His rescue.
I see His Word as His promise delivered to me in writing. I can remember lots of times when He’s walked with me through struggle and suffering and delivered me from it. He promises ultimate delivery to eternal life. My struggle and suffering often delivers to me a different perspective. When I walk through this life with His Word planted in my heart, I usually see the regular, every day stories of life from a different perspective. I am human for sure, but I want to be a human who pursues the heart and perspective of God. He has delivered me from hell and set me on a pathway of righteousness. I don’t ever want to forget what it was like to be lost. #delivered
