Defense & Offense

I really do miss seeing sports on TV. I miss the competitive spirit and the comradery of team sports. I love the analogy of life being like a good football game. There are four important elements to a football game.  1. The Offense which tries to score. 2. The defense which tries to keep the other team from scoring. 3. The officials who make sure the game is played according to the rules. 4. There are the spectators or the crowd, cheering the players on the field. At times, I’ve seen my life in all four of these elements as I navigate through life.

King David became a powerful king and other neighboring countries were intimidated a bit by him. The Ammonites decided to attack David and they hired men from a neighboring country to help out. They were attacking Israel’s army from more than one side. Check this out….

When Joab saw that he would have to fight on both the front and the rear, he chose some of Israel’s elite troops and placed them under his personal command to fight the Arameans in the fields. 10 He left the rest of the army under the command of his brother Abishai, who was to attack the Ammonites. 11 “If the Arameans are too strong for me, then come over and help me,” Joab told his brother. “And if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I will come and help you.12 Be courageous! Let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. May the Lord’s will be done.” (2 Samuel 10:9-12 NLT)

There are times when I’ve felt attacked from all sides. It seems like things are coming very fast and I have little time to prepare a response. I’m still learning during times like these to let the Lord “coach” (aka guide) me as I navigate different contests (aka battles). He always has a plan. He has insight that I can’t possibly have. He is my Defender. He is my Protector. He is my Provider. He gives me proper Perspective and Insight. He gives me Wisdom beyond compare.

I love this song by UPPERROOM called: “Defender”

When I thought I lost me, You knew where to find me.”  I’m so thankful that the Lord is with me whether I’m playing offense or defense against the enemy.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
