Cry For Help!
I think one of the most simple, yet profound prayers can be wrapped up on one word – Help! When I cry out to the Lord, I acknowledge that I can’t do things on my own. I’m still learning to trust Him with the stuff I know how to do. As Jeremiah writes a book where the title is “Lamentations”, I think it’s pretty obvious what the subject matter is. He’s in a tough spot, having seen this coming and having been left behind. He saw lots of brutality and human force. I was inspired by his calm and peaceful heart even in the midst of this tragedy that was unfolding. Check this out….
8 Jerusalem has sinned greatly
and so has become unclean.
All who honored her despise her,
for they have all seen her naked;
she herself groans
and turns away.
16 ‘This is why I weep
and my eyes overflow with tears.
No one is near to comfort me,
no one to restore my spirit.
My children are destitute
because the enemy has prevailed.’
17 Zion stretches out her hands,
but there is no one to comfort her.
The Lord has decreed for Jacob
that his neighbors become his foes;
Jerusalem has become
an unclean thing among them. (Lamentations 1:8,16-17 NIV)
I’ve learned that even though I might receive comfort from my friends and family, there is nothing like the Lord when it comes to helping me change my perspective. I have to learn to become dependent on Him and lean into Him. I still find help and hope in a song called “Cry Out to Jesus” by Third Day. You can listen to the song here.
To everyone who’s lost someone they love
Long before it was their time
You feel like the days you had were not enough
when you said goodbye
And to all of the people with burdens and pains
Keeping you back from your life
You believe that there’s nothing and there is no one
Who can make it right
There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
Love for the broken heart
There is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He’ll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus
For the marriage that’s struggling just to hang on
They lost all of their faith in love
They’ve done all they can to make it right again
Still it’s not enough
For the ones who can’t break the addictions and chains
You try to give up but you come back again
Just remember that you’re not alone in your shame
And your suffering
When your lonely
And it feels like the whole world is falling on you
You just reach out, you just cry out to Jesus
Cry to Jesus
To the widow who suffers from being alone
Wiping the tears from her eyes
For the children around the world without a home
Say a prayer tonight (by Third Day 2005)
Pressing On!
