Covenant Resolution

Word on black buttonThese words have similar meaning to one another and might actually seem a bit redundant. A covenant is considered a written contract that is enforceable. The Lord clearly made a covenant with His people and He put it in writing. A resolution is considered to be a firm decision to do or not to do something. Some resolutions are written down formally and are declared publicly. The people of Israel had really been involved in both a covenant and a resolution. They failed miserably at both. Check this out…

I said, ‘Obey me and do everything I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God. 5 Then I will fulfill the oath I swore to your ancestors, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey’—the land you possess today.”

I answered, “Amen, Lord.”

8 But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubbornness of their evil hearts (Jeremiah 11:5b, 8a NIV)

When I accepted the Lord as my savior, I felt like I entered into a covenant relationship with Him. I wear His Name and I live like He calls me to live. I have resolved to honor Him with my life. I want the activities of my life to reflect the fact that my heart belongs to Him. I have to confess that there are times when I choose my own way instead of His way – this almost never turns out good. His ways are higher than my ways. He sees the big picture and I only seem the snapshot of the here and now. I can see backward into history, but I can’t see into the future. He knows both and holds me tight going forward. I want my covenant with Him to be renewed each day. I want the resolve in my heart to be strong as steel as I walk out my faith.

Pressing On!
