Counterfeit
I’ve been told that bank tellers trained so much with real money that they can spot counterfeit money right away. They become so familiar with the real money that they counterfeit stands out to them as different. We have a lot of counterfeit commodities in our culture and we’re quite often fooled by the “knock-off version” of the real thing.
The Israelites were being punished for worshipping counterfeit gods. The Lord had had enough. Check this out…
19 Lord, my strength and my fortress,
my refuge in time of distress,
to you the nations will come
from the ends of the earth and say,
“Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods,
worthless idols that did them no good.
20 Do people make their own gods?
Yes, but they are not gods!”
21 “Therefore I will teach them—
this time I will teach them
my power and might.
Then they will know
that my name is the Lord. (Jeremiah 16:19-21 NIV)
I believe that it’s a good practice to become so familiar with the truth that false teaching can be spotted right away. There is a lot of confusion and mistruth in our culture. There are lies that masquerade as truth. I need to keep seeking the truth that comes from the Source of Truth so that I can spot the counterfeit version right away.
Pressing On!
