Cornerstone
We build differently now than in biblical times. They built with stone and rock. We use a manufactured type stone called concrete for foundations. The corners of any building are very important because the walls come together and there is a load on the cornerstone or in our case, the corner plate.
I came across this one verse in Isaiah this morning that is referenced other places in scripture. The Lord God was reminding Samaria, the capitol city of the Northern tribes of Israel that hope was coming. Isaiah was foretelling God’s plan of Jesus. Check this out….
16 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem,
a firm and tested stone.
It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on.
Whoever believes need never be shaken. (Isaiah 28:16 NLT)
I can’t imagine being born in an era where Jesus had not yet come to earth. Since I was a small child I learned about Jesus and why He came. I learned of His impact upon our world. When I was 18, I got to know Him personally. He has been the Rock for my life for many years. He has been patient with me when I stumble and stray. His consistent Presence in my life has a huge change maker in my life’s journey.
This passage also reminded me of a song we sing about Jesus being TheCornerstonewritten by Hillsong music and performed by Bethel Music.
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But holly trust is Jesus’ name
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But holly trust is Jesus’ name
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord Lord of all
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil
Pressing On!
