Consult

I have learned the value of having someone to consult with. This word is defined as “seeking advice or information – guidance”.  I have sought the counsel of an attorney. I have sought the advice of a pastor. I have sought the advice of a friend and mentor. I have also served as a “consultant” for another person. It is simply because I’ve been down the road that they are about to travel upon. The longer I walk with the Lord, I realize that there is even more value in consulting Him on everything.

The Israelites have taken two of the cities in the land God had promised them. The Gibeonites live nearby and knew that they were on the list of towns to be taken. They deceived the Israelites into making a “non destruction treaty” with them.  The Israelites investigated their shoes, food and clothing. The Gibeonites had purposely made it look like they had traveled from a distant land. Check this out….

14 So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord. 15 Then Joshua made a peace treaty with them and guaranteed their safety, and the leaders of the community ratified their agreement with a binding oath. (Joshua 9:14-15 NLT)

The people of Israel ending up making them servants in the area of “water carrier” and “woodcutters”. I can name many times when I didn’t consult the Lord. I might say I’m “praying about this”, but in my head the decision has already been made.

Consulting the Lord in everything can prevent dumb decisions.

Consulting the Lord in everything can help me choose wisely.

Consulting the Lord in everything reminds me that He owns it all anyway.

Consulting the Lord in everything is foundation to my respect of Him.

Consulting the Lord in everything is wise and discerning on my part.

I think it’s wise to consult the Lord each morning as I begin my day. I think it’s wise to see His Counsel throughout my day – every day. I think I should consult the Lord in little decisions as well as big decisions.  I have learned first-hand that there is no one wiser than the Lord. He knows everything. He sees things I can’t possibly see. He hears things that I can’t hear. He knows things that I’m not capable of knowing. Seeking God’s counsel every day is the wisest decision I can make.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
