Consequences Are Hard
This term means “the result or effect of an action or condition”. Most of the time when I hear the word consequences it is in a negative light. If I hear the word “results”, it usually has a positive connotation. I believe that there are consequences or results from all my choices. Some consequences are far-reaching and huge while other consequences are small. The Lord knows everything I do and He hears everything I say. I would be wise to use my words carefully. The people of Israel were punished severely as a consequence of their idol worship and blatant sin against the Lord. Check this out…
18 “Your own conduct and actions have brought this on you. This is your punishment. How bitter it is! How it pierces to the heart!” 22 “My people are fools; they do not know me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding. They are skilled in doing evil; they know not how to do good.” (Jeremiah 4:18;22 NIV)
I’m so thankful that the Lord made a way through Jesus, His Son to cover my sin. He forgives completely. I have been forgiven of sin where the consequences continue. I think that this happens every day. I know of people who committed adultery and repented but have a child to raise as a consequence of that sin. I know of people who are serving out a sentence for felony convictions that I believe are forgiven, but the consequence of their sin is a jail term.
I am a recipient of the amazing grace of God. I have learned that the proper response to my sin is confession and repentance. I sometimes have painful consequences for the sin, but I’m deeply grateful for the grace of God that washes me clean. I want to see His heart with all I am and hopefully my sin decreases as my faith increases.
Pressing On! Dwayne
