Consequence

A consequence is defined as, “a result or effect of an action or condition”. Some consequences are a part of natural law. For example, if you jump off a high building without a parachute or something to catch you when you land, you will die. Gravity is a fact of life and although we can defy gravity, we can’t deny it.

God is pretty clear on His view of sin and the consequences of sin. He is consistent with this throughout His Word. He doesn’t like sin and doesn’t mince words about it. He told Jeremiah that the people of Judah would be destroyed because of their sin.  IF they repented the consequences would be life. Check this out….

 19 So this is what the Lord says:

“If you change your heart and return to me, I will take you back.


    Then you may serve me.
 And if you speak things that have worth,


    not useless words,


    then you may speak for me.


Let the people of Judah turn to you,


    but you must not change and be like them.

20 I will make you as strong as a wall to this people,


    as strong as a wall of bronze.


They will fight against you,


    but they will not defeat you,
because I am with you.


    I will rescue you and save you,” says the Lord.

21 “I will save you from these wicked people


    and rescue you from these cruel people.” (Jeremiah 15:19-21 NCV)

I have learned the Lord doesn’t play with sin. He hates and despises sin. He loves, loves, loves a repentant and contrite heart. I want my heart to be broken before Him instead of “puffed up and prideful”. I’ve tried it both ways and the brokenness is the material God can use to create something amazing.  I can’t let my pride get in the way of repentance. The consequences of a sinful are death. God is the ONLY ONE who can rescue me from sin. He not only rescues me from sin, He gives me abundant life in its place.  In this case, the consequences are a huge blessing when my behavior is humble and repentant. The consequences of sin is death, the consequences of repentance is life – filled with forgiveness and grace.  I’m going to walk today in a spirit of repentance.
