Confusion

When I’m confused, I usually slow down and start looking for clarity. I think the older I get, the easier it is for me to be confused about some things.  In other things, ideas and thoughts, I’m abundantly clear. When I was young, I was unclear on what was right and what was wrong. It’s way easier now.

After the great flood, the people evidently all spoke one language and decided to make a name for themselves. I think it’s interesting that the self-serving “gene” always seems to rear its ugly head in our lives.  I have to constantly fight off being self-centered and wanting everything to be about me, mine and ours. Check this out….

They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.)Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.” (Genesis 11:3-4 NLT)

I see the word “us” in these two verses 4 times. These people were self-serving and self-centered. The Lord created us to serve Him and others. We were not created to simply serve ourselves. I find more joy and fulfillment when I’m serving others. I work in a service profession, serving buyers and sellers real estate. I’ve learned that seeing my purpose here on earth to serve others has given me great clarity and welcomed peace into my heart.

When I learn to serve others, my struggles become less significant.

When I learn to serve others, my understanding of their journey expands.

When I learn to serve others, a deeper connection is established in our relationship.

When I learn to serve others, God is totally honored. He loved first. He served first.

I can get great clarity on my sense of purpose when I serve others ahead of myself. This is a bit counter-cultural in our current culture, but it has been a huge perspective shift for me. I’m so thankful for the people I get to serve every day – my life is blessed most when serving others. I’m clear on that; not confused.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
