Confrontation
I’m not a person who loves or thrives on confrontation. I don’t see a lot of value in running from confrontation when I see it coming. Confrontation conversations can be awkward and hard, but very healthy. I once heard Dave Ramsey say that “to be unclear is to be unkind”. I think confrontation doesn’t always have to be negative. I think it can actually be very positive. If I’m confronting someone for negative behavior, it matters how I approach them. I can be very respectful, gentle, but firm. It takes courage to confront, but it can produce amazing results and can deepen relationships.
Jeremiah was face with a false prophet that started contradicting his message of captivity and destruction that was coming from the Lord due to the behavior of the people. This guy Hananiah was “sugar coating” his “message from God”. He was trying to calm everyone down because Jeremiah’s message was strong and negative. The Lord speaks through Jeremiah to confront Hananiah. Check this out….
9 So a prophet who predicts peace must show he is right. Only when his predictions come true can we know that he is really from the Lord.”
15 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent you, but the people believe your lies. 16 Therefore, this is what the Lordsays: ‘You must die. Your life will end this very year because you have rebelled against the Lord.’”
17 Two months later the prophet Hananiah died.(Jeremiah 28:9,15-17 NLT)
I want to be a truth teller.
I want to be a truth seeker.
I want to be bold in my pursuit of truth.
I want to always be kind in confrontation. I want to display courage in confrontation. It hurts my heart to see good people ignore the call of God upon their life.
If you are reading this, I hope you will put your hope and trust in Creator God and stop trying to do life your own way. God gave His One and only Son so that we don’t have to try to do life our own way. We have hope that this life is not all there is. He made a way to have hope for eternal life after we leave this earth. I wish more people would lean into the Lord with the details of their life and come face to face with His amazing love. The Lord wants what’s best for me. He will call me out if disobey. His Word confronts me, and it makes me better. His Word brings direction. His Word brings peace. His Word brings comfort. I am a better man because of the confrontation with God’s Word.
Pressing On!
