Complacent
This is not a positive attribute. In fact, the very definition is pretty telling. Complacent means: “showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one’s achievements”. I’ve known people who are like that – they are “full of themselves” and therefore they can’t think of anyone else. Smug and complacent people don’t have room for the Lord in their life. The prophet Amos warned the leaders of Israel about this very characteristic. Check this out…
Woe to you who are complacent in Zion,
and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria,
you notable men of the foremost nation,
to whom the people of Israel come! (Amos 6:1 NIV)
As I grow in my trust and dependence upon the Lord, complacency is chased from my life. I am nothing without Him so I can’t get all “smug” about anything I’ve done or any position I’ve held. I will live today knowing that He is the Driving Force in everything I do and say. I don’t ever want to entertain a complacent spirit in me.
Pressing On!
