Call
I take quite a few calls each day on my cell. I’m a REALTOR by trade and I have my signs on property all across the area and I like to receive calls on my listings because sometimes I get THE call from THE one who wants to buy this property. I have to take quite a few calls before that ONE CALL. In our language we use the word “call” many different ways. In the dictionary, the word “call” means: to cry out to shout out; an animal makes a specific sound; to telephone; to summon someone; to chant a dance like square dance; to shout prices at an auction…. Calls also come in the form of email, text, tweet, Facebook message, etc…. There is also the “call” on my life. This is a tough one to describe. When I’m “called” to do something specific, it just might not make sense to anyone but me. I love the response when Jesus is calling his first disciples. Check this out…
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. (Matthew 4:18-22 NIV)I love how Peter and Andrew followed “at once” after the call of Jesus. James and John followed “immediately” after Jesus call. I need to work a bit on my response to Jesus’ call to act. There are times I feel “called” to give or serve and I decide that I need to “make sure” it was the Lord calling. It might appear to others that I’m simply discerning, but in reality, I’m stalling. I feel called to do many things and to go different places and I believe it’s important to respond immediately to the Lord. There are times He lays someone on my heart to check in with or visit. I believe I’m missing an God-timed opportunity if I don’t act immediately.
As I spend time in the Word each morning, I can’t explain how I feel called to write what I believe He’s speaking into my life. I started “blogging” my journey several months back (it’s turning into years) and I can’t explain the call to continue, but I love hearing from Him. I love the peaceful feeling in my heart when I’m being consistently obedient to His call. It is the right place to be at the right time when He calls me to do something. I need to listen for His call and respond immediately to it!
Pressing On! Dwayne
